‘American Hot Rod’ star dead

LOS ANGELES, Golden State Car-building fable Boyd Coddington, whose testosterone-injected cable TV world show “American Hot Rod” acquainted the state to the West Coast raging rod Guru, has conked. He was 63.

Coddington gave Wednesday at Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital in suburban Whittier. His La Habra business office spokeswoman Amanda Curry wouldn’t expose the reason of expiry.

Coddington, who commenced building machines when he was 13 and one time operated a gaseous state station in Utah, set a standard for his craftsmanship and creativeness, with his democratic “Cadzilla” creative activity considered a designing masterpiece. “That was a groundbreaking auto. Very cool,” emphasised Dick Messer, executive managing director of the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. “He made things to raging rods and customs duty that weren’t being through with by anyone else. Coddington was a shop mechanic by trade, doing work at Disneyland during the twenty and monkeying with automobiles in his home garage at nighttime and on weekends.
